IWSG: July, 2014

It's another Insecure Writer's Support Group virtual meeting, hosted by Alex J Cavanaugh.

This month, I have to say I'm not feeling the enthusiasm to continue on with blogging. I think I need to focus on getting my fiction writing done, and this is just one more thing taking up my time. I do see the value of it; I simply would rather be doing anything else. My youngest child is watching Team UmiZoomi, an annoying show on Nickelodeon, and I'd rather watch that with him than write this.  I think that says something.

I was going to paste a video, but I don't want to do that to any of you, so I'll just give you a picture. Imagine excessively enthusiastic voices.

Over the next month, I'm going to think hard on it and decide if I am going to continue on and if I'm going to switch blogging platforms. If I don't think about it at all, then that's going to be my answer.

Sorry I don't have something more interesting for you all to read today.  Have a great 4th of July.

Tonja

  1. If that's commanding your attention over blogging, that does indeed say something!

  2. I understand that feeling completely. It's part of why I took a long break over the winter. Writing novels is the most important thing to me, and I didn't want anything interfering with that. BUT I did find I missed connecting with people online. And, for me, blogging once a week on Wednesdays is doable. Not so much pressure to get something out on a Monday morning. :)

  3. It's hard to keep at it without a break. I's say give yourself one, then make your decision.

  4. I'm always and forever, it seems, wondering if I can continue blogging too and get anything done. But the thought of losing contact with the outside world is too great a risk. I do understand how you feel, Tonja. There must be a happy medium. Right now, except for IWSG day, I'm only visiting bloggers who visit my blog. At least that way it's under control.

  5. I think it's okay to take a break, especially if it's interfering with your writing. Your art is the most important thing. Blogging and social media will always be here. You can come back to it.

  6. My IWSG post is about taking a bit of a blogging break for the month of July. I'm kind of worried I'll lose readers but I'm feeling kind of burned out on social media and need to devote more energy to other projects. I'm hoping I'll come back feeling refreshed and with lots of creative accomplishments under my belt. Good luck to you!

  7. I've been feeling burned out on blogging ever since the A-Z ended. I want to keep doing it, but am really taking it easy this summer. Take care and good luck with your writing.

  8. Writing is far more important than blogging. It's as simple as that.

  9. I think blogging has that effect -I've been blogging for 8 years now and I finally am at a place where it's okay. I used to worry about what to blog, how often to blog, should I schedule. Now I just blog when I want. Sometimes I go a few weeks, occasionally a month, but you know, I haven't lost any followers, and maybe that's because when I post it's interesting (hopefully lol!) rather than posting for posting sake. Hope you manage to find a happy medium :)

  10. Hi Tonja! I'm visiting as an IWSG member. I'm sorry that you're feeling burnt out on blogging. Sometimes life gets in the way, and sometimes you just need to take a break. I get that! I find it helpful to think of my posts as writing. I'm going to follow you and cheer for your success whatever you choose.

  11. Agreed. But how do you manage all the emails? I get enough that if I was to not check on my emails daily, it would get unmanageable. I did reset twitter and facebook messaging to only the necessary ones, buy holy smokers, it takes a lot of time.
