A Story and a Thank You

We had a birthday party for my preschooler this evening.  He was gracious enough to share the party with his dad, uncle and grandpa, who all have birthdays in the same week.  It's cool to be birthday buddies.  I am certain he got the thing where the party was for him.  He had balloons on his chair and got to blow out a big number 4 candle.

I told him he needed to make a wish before he blew out the candle.  He's finally big enough to understand what that means.  He thought for a few seconds.  People were calling out.  "Close your eyes!  Don't tell what you wished for!" and other very important tips for wish-making.  He took their advice seriously; he closed his eyes and didn't tell his wish.  So sweet.

Toward the end of the gift-opening, he opened a present - a three-pack of Nerf hand-guns and extra ammo.  Ugh.  I know they aren't real, but he has a hard time understanding what is real, so the rule is no guns for him.  I kept my mouth shut until one of the teens at the party pointed one at my face and pulled the trigger.

Everyone left shortly after that....

Before bed, my little guy screwed up his face and said, "I can't believe she gave my brother a Nerf gun."

I want to say thank you to everyone that has visited and especially those of you that have left comments lately.  You all are amazingly supportive, and I am acutely aware of how lucky I am to have bumped into you.

I've been having a hard time getting around to everyone and replying.  I'm not sure if that's going to get better any time soon.  Something seems to be wrong with the space-time-continuum (if that's the correct phrase) - the hours seem to be shrinking exponentially.

Maybe that's how the world will end in December - time will speed up so much that we will literally run out of time.

Glad your boy had a good birthday, even if guns were involved.

Yes, I completely agree with the disappearance of time. Poof!

  4. I had the same rule for my son -- no toy guns. Mostly people complied -- mostly because they feared my wrath. Heh. Hope your son had a great day. So cute when they are little and believe in wishes. :))

  5. Aww! It sounds like he had a great birthday, although I can see your point with the toy guns.

  6. I know exactly how you feel (even before this presentation thing on Friday). Sounds like a wonderful birthday party! Very sweet on the wish. I enjoy that they are old enough to understand that and young enough to still believe in it (my daughter just turned 5 last week). Birthday buddies are also very cool. My son was born on my grandma's birthday, so I'll always be able to think of her on his birthday, and he feels special when she calls him her birthday buddy.

  7. I love the image of your little guy listening to the advice and closing his eyes as he thought about his wish. Sounds like a great party in spite of the gun gift.

I can understand what you mean about the time, you have a good point and maybe that is how the world will end!

Time does fly. I can't believe the 2012 season at the observatory ends this coming weekend.

  10. Happy Birthday tot he smart little guy:)

I go through stages where I don't visit much, either. I love visiting, but it's time consuming and hard to get must-do's done when you're blog hopping.

  11. Happy Birthday to the little guy! People should ask, though, before they give toy guns as presents.

  12. I know how you are feeling about neglecting your blog and commenting to all your lovely followers. Time is never long enough, unless you are waiting for something, such as a return email from an agent! Then it never can go by fast enough!

We celebrated my 9 year old b-day yesterday. I love birthday parties!

  13. My sister, two brothers, and myself have birthdays within two weeks of each other. We would all do one birthday party for all four of us. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing :)
