S is for Sleep

Or maybe sleep deprivation.

I have only gotten about four hours of sleep a night since Sunday night.  I am so done, I can't think of anything else for my S post.

We have a puppy.  She cries at 5:15 AM.

We have a teen.  She's supposed to take the puppy out, but she's one of those people that's really hard to wake up.  Her alarm clock (and puppy) wake me up on the other side of the house before they wake her up.

We have a preschooler.  He crawls in bed with me at 4:30 AM.  He kicks a lot.  And he doesn't nap in the afternoon.  So I don't nap.

My husband's been out of town, so I haven't had help with the laundry and everything else all week, but mostly the laundry, which is critical because all this week (and not last week) the puppy keeps peeing her bed, her little quacky toy, her purse (yes, she has a purse), and the towels in the plastic tote she sits in so she doesn't choke on a marble or a lego (or whatever other small thing was left on the floor) while I change my preschooler's clothes because he keeps spilling (or peeing) on his clothes.  *exhale*

The kids are doing their best - the dog just seems to have an amazing ability to seek out that one thing on the ground that can kill her (she only weighs two pounds).  She has found all the previously unfound plastic Easter eggs.  It's all good - she prefers to be carried around anyway - luckily my preschooler doesn't.

So there's been a lot of laundry this week.  I've stayed up late into the night doing laundry and not sleeping.

When I finally manage to lay down, I don't sleep.  Insomnia seems to kick in when I'm not working on my novel.  I'm not alone on that, am I?  But I'm too tired to write.

I'm writing this post ahead of time and scheduling it so I can sleep in the morning - hopefully - since my husband just returned from his trip.  What is he doing?  Sleeping.  It's only 10:00.

This post is part of the 2012 A to Z Challenge.  Of course the schedule option didn't work this morning.  I did get some sleep.  Yay.

  1. Tonja, I hope you get some sleep soon! Maybe you should put that deep-sleep teen to work on the laundry?

  2. Sleep deprivation is not good. I'm so jealous of heavy sleepers. The Hubster's alarm wakes me up every morning, and I have to in turn wake him up.

Hope you get some sleep soon.

  3. Ugh. New puppy syndrome sucks. I always tell my daughter that the dog is the reason she doesn't have any siblings. I just couldn't take it. Good luck in getting caught up on some well deserved slumber.

Just swinging through from A to Z. Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

  4. I spent the last two weeks waking up at 4 am, I think due to the time difference traveling from London. It's taken me this long to finally sleep in until 6 this morning.

Hang in there, and maybe the teenager can watch the dog and toddler while you nap. Maybe? Probably not, huh?

  5. yep those little puppies are harder than little babies--hoping you catch up on your sleep and laundry :)

  6. This is a great reminder that I have nothing to whine least Katie Cat lets me sleep until 7:00 AM.

  7. It's ahrd to function at all without some sleep. Hope puppy settles in soon.

  8. oh my gosh! I hope you get some restful sleep soon.

  9. Having a new puppy definitely can zap your energy. I hope you get some much-needed rest, and I hope the puppy training doesn't take too long so you can settle into a smoother routine!

  10. Glad you were finally able to get a little more sleep last night. Try to take care of yourself and I hope you catch up on more tonight! If not, there's always earplugs! Julie

  11. I can relate. I also can assure you, it gets better.

  12. I hope you've been able to get lots of sleep this weekend. I struggle with insomnia and know how draining sleep deprivation can be. Take care!
