By Monday evening, my hip, entire leg, and foot were numb (like that feeling when you sleep on your hand and it's 'asleep'). No stretches helped, no position made it better. It was different than the tingling and pain I used to have in my foot. Usually, icing it and laying down helps a lot. Not this time - nothing helped.
I had a PT appointment yesterday morning. He massaged my leg with a giant rolling pin and all of his weight and then poked spots in my hip until I expressed pain, which apparently didn't take much pressure at all. He said I overdid it once I started feeling better - but I really didn't do much at all - I walked some but only a mile at a time, and I cleaned my house but stopped when it bothered me.
Frustrating as it is, I still have hope that my body will be back to normal soon and our lives will get easier. I wish it were now, but we don't always get what we wish for. I need a little bit of easy.

So I put my writing on hold last weekend and hope to resume tomorrow night. I am so happy I jotted down the notes for each of the chapters - otherwise I would be feeling hopeless right now. Instead I just feel like I'm on pause again. Maybe tomorrow I'll make some progress.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by yesterday and my new followers. I absolutely enjoyed reading everyone's posts.
Frustrating when we don't help fast enough.
ReplyDeleteAnd even though you didn't finish, that's just a minor setback. You'll finish soon!
At least you can see that the book will be finished. Just a hiccup. I'm sure that your PT was right and you'll be back walking - a little - soon. Take life as slow and easy as you can.
ReplyDeleteAlex - Thanks. I did just realize I spelled the title wrong - Setbacks, not set backs.
ReplyDeleteStephanie - I'm one of those people that has problems taking life slowly. Torture.
Sorry to hear of your set back. Take it easy and things will be normal once again. Just a little bump in the road. NO worries!!
ReplyDeleteHope that you've found some more time to focus on your work.
ReplyDeleteEeep...I never thought a rolling pin was good for physical therapy. You have my sympathies and I hope life eases up soon so that you can return to the joy of writing.
ReplyDelete@Keena - Thanks for the support as always.
ReplyDelete@Liza - Not yet, maybe tonight....
@Michael - They didn't beat me with it - just rolled it on my thigh - like rolling out dough. It's made of foam or something, not wood. Torture, either way.
Oh, man--I'm so sorry for both of those! The injury thing is hard... you want to do what you can, but the reality is, by the time it hurts, you've done too much. I think it the PT can give you a schedule, even if it feels like way too little, follow it.
ReplyDeleteAs for your hubby and working setting you back--I hear you on that one. My hubby started a job in May and it includes 4 evenings a week, so I am having to cook a lot more--totally has slowed me down. We definitely need to figure out how to pace ourselves, but there will never be anything we can do about somebody ELSE'S schedule. Hope you are back to it!
