A Vision of Exhaustion

This morning I went to physical therapy.  A little girl walked in.  I'm guessing she was nine or ten years old.  She had very light blond hair that was pulled back in a ponytail that was askew, as if she had slept in it or pulled up her hair in her sleep.  She wore a thick winter hoodie and shorts.  She had a brace on one leg - like to support a sprain.  Both feet drug across the floor loudly, trying to slow down her path.  The upper half of her body was slumped forward.  The look on her face was completely unnecessary - she said it all with her body language.

It was as if an acting coach had told her to BE exhaustion, and she nailed it.

I laughed out loud and said, "That's how I feel on the inside."  She glared at me just a little.

Oh, to be ten again.

  1. That phrase is my favorite to hear when my kids are throwing a tantrum. So non-judgmental. I love it!

  2. What a priceless character she'd make ... or study for a character.

  3. @Angela - She was very cute - funny she didn't have to say a word about how she felt.

@M Pax - I think so too. I wonder if she'll show a different emotion with her body next time. :)

  5. I agree with Nicole! You really conveyed a lot of detail in a few words. That is not an easy task! Great post! BTW, I gave you a shout-out on my blog! Julie
