Hope and Temporary Pain

I had my EMG and nerve conduction study yesterday.  I walked in the office in pain and left feeling like I had been tortured.  The doctor basically tased me with a mini-taser.  Then she poked me with needles that may have also been electrified - all I know is my finger nails were dug into the table, my palms were sweating, and I had to remind myself to breathe.  This morning I feel terrible too - like maybe she left some of those needles in me.

The result of the tests were horrible.  She used the phrases, "definitely abnormal" and "nerve damage" - words you never want to hear from your doctor.  The good news is, she thinks the pain in my foot is related to the pain in my hip and back (which is now worse than the pain in my foot).  She seemed confident it is fixable and likely without surgery, but definitely with more tests (hopefully not the needle-poking/taser kind) and more discomfort.

My kids were wonderful sports as always about cancelling our vacation that has been planned for months - we were supposed to leave on Friday.  Now we are going to do things here and will make the most of it.  The older kids came up with a long list of activities we can do next week and were very enthusiastic about it.  They are awesome.

  1. I had those tests for my hands. Yup, felt like needles were stuck into me for some time afterward. Mine was repetitive stress and it did get better over time. Hope you find relief soon.

How sweet of your kids. :)

  4. I'm so sorry that you are in so much pain. My mom has nerve damage too, and I watched her cringe while she was taking the test. I hope you're able to have physical therapy or something else to manage your pain, or hopefully be completely rid of it. Good luck and feel better! Your kids sound wonderful btw!

  5. Emty Nest Insider - I told the doctor stories while she was doing it so I could get through it. She had to stop to wipe her eyes, she was laughing so hard. I think the shocks helped my foot some, so I'm hopeful. They think they will be able to resolve all of it, maybe non-surgically. :) I will walk every day of my life once they fix it.
