My clothes dryer broke yesterday, so I was lucky enough to have two hours to write at the laundromat while laundering six loads. I brought a journal and pen since my headache had flared up again. The second I got into the story, my daughter finished a math problem and started chatting with me. I didn't hear a word she said.
I am only at 11,000 words this morning, not including my handwritten words yesterday. The little graph on the NaNoWriMo site tells me I can still get to 50K words if I write about 3000 words a day through the end of the month. I think I have it in me. I know my story and my characters, where the plot turns, and how it ends. If my week of migraines is over (please let it be over), it's within the realm of reason that I can pound it out. And it won't be crap (like it was last year).
I tend to write the bare minimum on a first draft and add words on the second, third, fourth, ... twelfth draft. So I could write the entire first draft of a whole novel in fifty thousand words.
My plan for the next two weeks: coffee, write, exercise, clean and take care of kids, repeat.
I am going to commit to not return here until I'm done - even if that takes me into December. I'm sure you all will understand.
Have a lovely holiday. I'm not feeling good about the annual slaughter of the turkeys - we might have tofu instead. My husband will cry, but he'll be happy when he gets to the desserts (I almost spelled that desert).
A desert would be very dry.
ReplyDeleteWe'll miss you, but understand the need to accomplish something. But peek in tomorrow if you want a shock...
You go girl! :-) I know you can do it. Continuing to send positive thoughts!
ReplyDeleteFunny how you can say a broken dryer and an unexpected trip to the laundromat is lucky, because you had time to write. But I get it!
ReplyDeleteGood luck -- and you can do it!
I write fat and cut later, so instead of a climbing NaNo word count, I'm anxiously watching the word count on my ms go DOWN. 4k more to cut.
Best of luck with the rest of your writing, I am sure you will do great.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I wrote nearly 6,000 words today - a record for me. Yay!!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with it! :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I just saw your comment that you wrote 6,000 words today! Congrats!! That's totally awesome. Good luck the rest of the way, I'm sure you will do it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to laugh because I ALWAYS spell dessert as desert. It's like I have a total mental block about the word.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday, Tonja. And I agree about the turkeys, it gets to me.
wow, obstacles are okay...you'll get through it!! good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the push through! I know you'll do it. You seem like such a determined person :) See ya when you get back!
ReplyDeleteHi Tonja! New follower here... came by to say thanks for signing up for the Cheers, Cavanaugh Blogfest! I'm so glad you're participating! And keep rockin' NaNo... you're doing it. Keep the momentum!
ReplyDeleteI do understand and wish you the BEST of luck!
ReplyDeleteHave a great holiday! Best with getting through NaNo.
ReplyDeleteHOpe you can make your word counts. I'm taking a week long blogging break except for visiting.
ReplyDeleteHave a good Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThere are ten days left...and I have only 27000 words to go. That sounds like a lot, but it's only 2700 words a day - two chapters and two or three hours at the pace I'm going.
ReplyDeleteMay you finish your project and gain a whole heap of satisfaction from it! Happy thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your NaNo goals... remain positive!!
