I can't count the times my kids have said these words:
- "Can I stay up for just 10 more minutes?"
- "I'll just be a minute."
- "It's just five dollars."
- "She's just a little puppy. Taking care of her will be easy!"
- "It's just twenty dollars. I'll pay you back."
All the justs add up, mostly the ones I say to myself:
I just need to do one thing before I write.
Just one cookie won't make a difference.
It's just twenty dollars, the kids will pay me back.
I'll just write tomorrow if I can't find time today.

This post is part of the 2012 A to Z Challenge. I literally couldn't think of another word except jelly. My kids suggested jelly beans.
Just one more jelly flavored jelly bean?
ReplyDeleteThat's a word we need to avoid. Especially me, as I tend to overuse it in my writing.
Great entry..
ReplyDeletejust plain clever!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lynn...just plain clever!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great post. Much more insightful than jelly beans. ;)
ReplyDeleteJust is right up there with "but" and then of course the whining! *cringe*
ReplyDeleteIf only you just had a nickel for everytime it was said...
ReplyDeleteJust is one of those words I have to edit out of my manuscripts when I go back. *sigh*

I'll just have one more piece of Easter egg ...
ReplyDeleteThis is something we can all relate to! I'm equally bad when I indulge myself with too many "justs!" This post is just wonderful! Julie
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, I hear my thirteen year old say this all the time; just five more minutes! UGH!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your comments. I'm having a little problem leaving comment on some WordPress sites - not sure what's up with that.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! I never really think about how the little Justs - all add up!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted a glass of water. I just need another quid. Ahahahaha, that word used to drive my mum a bit nuts.
ReplyDeleteI use just a lot when it comes to writing.
ReplyDeleteI'll just write when they go to bed.
I'll just write after I check FB and Twitter.
So true.
Heather
hehe, yep, I use "Just one cookie won't make a difference" a lot, although replace cookie with chocolate :)
ReplyDeleteJust just just... my big problem is overusing that word in my writing. Kids love negotiating.
ReplyDeleteJust is just a great word. :) Thank you for coming by my blog!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the word! It's perfect! Quite impressive that you had a hard time coming up with something and still got this. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say one more time how I really appreciate you all. And what's a quid?
ReplyDeleteBritish slang for a pound coin
