I is for Itchy!
One of my kids got hives at age seven or eight from an allergic reaction to a medication. The doctor said the hives could last for weeks. My child kept screaming, "Itchy!" I kept screaming, "Don't scratch it!" It was two weeks I won't soon forget.
My older kids and I all have overstated reactions to bug bites, spider bites especially. The itchiness lasts for weeks, and cortisone cream only takes the edge off a little.
If there is a hell, which I suspect there is, I fear mine will be an eternity of itchiness from a hundred spider bites - with the cortisone cream just out of reach. I could handle the bitey part and even the spiders, but not the itchiness. So I try to be good.

Itchy! YIKES!
ReplyDeleteIt's worse than pain I think - I might not say that if I were in a lot of pain.
DeleteGood luck with trying to be good. lol.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this speaks to me...I ended up in the ER on Friday night because the medication I was taken made me break out in hives...I had NEVER had hives and they were horrible! EEEGADS!!!! Itchy is right!
ReplyDeleteI hope it clears up quickly for you and doesn't take weeks.
DeleteI have the same type of reaction. It drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI think there's few things worse than being ridiculously itchy.
DeleteLast year I got chicken pox and the biggest challenge was to ignore the itching! Especially with my mother yelling at how the scratching leaves marks
ReplyDeleteOh, that's terrible. My kids had the vaccines, so they haven't had it. I remember getting it in kindergarten. All we had was that pink stuff that smelled funny.
DeleteI can't believe there isn't something out there to help you more. Not even old fashioned remedies?
ReplyDeleteNow I'm itchy.

:)
I'm all itchy now too. I have tried baking soda with water. It sucks out the venom for bug bites. Works great when they are all swollen.
DeleteI have the same problem with spider bites. And, I can't keep my paws from scratching, I'm awful.
ReplyDeleteI hate how once you scratch it, it gets more itchy.
DeleteMosquitoes and poison ivy love me. YIKES!! I itch just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteMy sister has a terrible problem with poison ivy. If it's in the air at all she gets it in her eyes. I've never had it.
DeleteHahaha...you have the best posts for the A to Z. I hate mosquitos by the way. Drive me nuts in the summer. I always get bit in the weirdest places...like between the toes or behind the ear. So annoying.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've got nothing for tomorrow. Oh well. Mosquitos are particularly itchy. We had something in the grass last year at the end of the summer that devoured my ankles.
Deletespider bites!!! ewwww...poor little kid, all itchy and not being able to scratch...I think I've got fleas, I'm all itchy now...
ReplyDeleteI'm itchy again reading this too.
Deleteitching could drive one insane i think!---i hope you can find some better relief!
ReplyDeleteIt's terrible. As soon as clothing touches the bite, it gets all itchy again.
DeleteThat sounds like my daughter. She hates daddy long-legs. :)
ReplyDeleteThey don't bite, do they?
DeleteIf I forget bug spray before mowing the lawn, I am chewed alive - and itch for days!
ReplyDeleteMe too. I have to wear long pants and socks - even in the summer.
DeleteOoh, yes. Hate the itchiness. Just as bad for me is in the winter, when my hands get too dry -- I develop an itchy rash on the back of them.

I feel like I need to scratch having read your post ... maybe it's contagious, like yawning?
ReplyDeleteitchiness is awesome!!! ok, I'm in denial because just reading your post is making me itchy ;)
ReplyDeleteI hate itchy. I know for some reason some people attrack more bug bits too. My daughter and I can be someplace and she gets a dozen mosquito bites and I get none.
ReplyDeleteI can deal with itchy, but not spiders! !
ReplyDeleteI hate the itchy too, and I am not to pleased with the spiders either. My daughter gets pretty severe reactions to bug bites of all types and swells up like a balloon plus gets itchy. Not fun at all. Visiting from the A-Z challenge. ♥

I'm not a big fan of any discomfort, and believe that even minor ones can be VERY frustrating if you can't get relief.
ReplyDeleteFact: It is possible to go insane from too much itch. I'm not kidding. It can happen to people with certain diseases that cause intense itching.
ReplyDeleteI prefer pain over itching. Seriously. I cannot stand itching. However, like you, I have an extreme reaction to most insect bites. Not only that, but I'm allergic to poison ivy, oak and sumac. I spent some very awful weeks, full of wearing gloves, being coated with pink Calamine lotion, and taking ice cold baking soda baths. Blech. I'm so glad poison ivy is not typically an issue in Colorado!
