Behind Schedule

I have a recurring dream where I find myself back at work at my old IT job at the hospital where I used to work, but in a consultant role.  Usually the dream ends when I remember I don't really like working there and I don't have to work there anymore.  Last night, the ending was different.  I realized I needed to stop working because I need the time to finish my novels - I told them I had to quit because I'm a writer, and I didn't have time to give two weeks notice - my novel was waiting.

And it is.  I did finish jotting down all the edits for the middle chapters of my novel - but I didn't type them up.  Chaos took over last night with my kids - and exhaustion after that.  I did fall asleep at the first commercial break during Chelsea Lately.  That's good sleep for me, even though my alarm went off at 5:30.

I have 20 minutes this morning and not much time later to type up the edits.  I'm going to take it one chapter at a time today and take however long it takes.  I really wanted to get the whole thing done and off to beta readers before Halloween.  I signed up for NaNoWriMo and want to start something new on November 1.

My assumption is that NaNoWriMo was a name that some writers came up with.  Really?  That's the best they can do?  It's impossible to pronounce.  Why not NNWM?  NWM?  Novel Month?

For NaNoWriMo, I plan to write the prequel to the novel I'm finishing this month.   It's a story I hand-wrote and then lost.  It's here somewhere - I'll probably find it as soon as I write the last word of the new version.  Initially, the characters were different - I think it will work better with the characters from my current story.  When I did the last revisions, I added in "hooks" (I hate that word - it sounds so hokey) to connect the two stories.

I am so happy I finished writing the middle section, the problem chapters, and that I got positive feedback from my critique partner.  The ending is done - just needs some polish, so that should be easy enough to complete if I get this middle section done by the end of the weekend.

I'll read your posts later today when I'm done with whatever I can get done.  I hope you all have productive days too.

I think moving forward, I will add pictures to my blog.  I dunno - does it really make a difference?

  3. Shelly and Alex - Thanks. I did it. And then I realized my ink cartridge is empty and I've got no extras. At least it's done - the middle at least. Just need to polish up the ending.
