Time Crunch

I'm happy to say I am back to writing.  Over the last two days, I edited the first 100 pages of the novel I wrote last winter.  I like writing in the morning.  It leaves me with a happy, satisfied feeling - a kind of high - that lasts for hours.

It turns out I also like walking in the morning.  As part of recovery for my hurt foot, I have been walking 1.5 miles a day - a miracle for sure.  But it takes me 1.5 hours, the same 1.5 hours when I usually write.

Choices....

Did I mention I also like to sleep as long as possible?

As always in my life, sleep seems to be the only thing that can give.

My kids start school in less than two weeks.  Instead of waking up at noon, my daughter has to get up at 5:00 AM.  Seriously.  I usually go back to sleep and wake up again at 8:00 AM to get my boys on their way.  I think I need to do it differently - at least I could get my home physical therapy and walk in before 8:00 AM.

But saying it out loud like that - in words staring at me on the screen - is too brutal.  It's kind of dark out at five in the morning, and I'm certain my writing won't be its best before the sun is up.

I'm sure I'll work it out.  For now - right now - it's 10:00 AM.  I haven't finished working on my novel, and I haven't taken my walk - or had breakfast, or taken a shower.  And the clock is still ticking.

  1. That makes two of us. I got a shower about 20 minutes ago and just ate my breakfast. I definitely need to revamp my schedule.

  2. Ughhh, 5AM? I'm not much of a morning person, and trying to write that early in the morning makes my head spin. Good luck!

But how awesome that you're able to walk that far!!

(P.S. I've given you an award on my blog, if you're interested. :))

  4. Glad you've gotten back into writing. I'm not much of a morning person either. Especially now that I've stopped caffeine. I'll suppose I'll adjust and get less draggy.

Not being able to think real coherently seems to help my writing. lol It's the first thing I do everyday.

I do like to get up before 7, but it's hard in the summer when I'm working nights at the observatory. I'll get back to it in October.

  5. I'm so glad that your foot is getting better. I have trouble w/ time management. However, I cant do much now that I fractured my ankle. Have a great weekend!!

  6. @Shelly - Breakfast for my kids is ultra-important to me, but somehow mine isn't. Coffee is.

@Laura - I agree - that's too early to get up for anything. Thanks for the award. :) Some poeple from your site came to visit me.

@Sylvia - Thanks! I'm not sure it's going to be comfortable, but something will work itself out. Maybe I can get my cleaning done before the sun comes up - that could work.

@M Pax - I need to give up the caffeine too - but not today...maybe tomorrow. I like writing first thing too - after the first cup of coffee - other distractions don't get in the way as much.

@Keena - You broke your ankle on top of everything else??
