Marital Bliss As the Net Result of Interactions

I was watching something on TV over the weekend - maybe the Today show.  A guest on the show said it was a scientific fact that if you have five positive interactions in your marriage for every one negative one, that you and your spouse will be happy.  He provided no studies or evidence, and I think maybe he didn't literally mean it was a fact.  After all, how can you measure happiness?

But it's an interesting premise.  This is how I maintain a good relationship with my kids - no, I don't consciously count the interactions and rate them, but I try to end every day with much more positive than negative.  I put the responsibility of the net result of the day on myself.  After all, they are kids.

For a marriage, I believe one person shouldn't be responsible for making sure both people feel happy at the end of the day.  Or maybe this belief is why my kids go to bed happy but my husband and I often don't.

Something to think about....
