Last spring, I wrote a month of short snippets about the chihuahua I had when I was in my 20's. Many of the posts were about the time he went boating with us on vacation. I won't repeat the stories here, but I finally found the picture from our boat trip. If you want to read the snippets, click here.
This little guy was small enough to fit in a shirt pocket when we first got him. He was completely in love with Lucy, my 110 pound dog from yesterday's post. His whole body was smaller than her head. He used to lay under her chin and let her lick him from head to toe.
Everyone called him Ratdog although his name was Roscoe. He was kind of vicious and bit pretty much everyone I knew - luckily it just felt like a bee sting, and no one got too mad about it. We had to get rid of him after I had my first child. The baby made him nervous, and when he got nervous, he became more vicious. He sulked around the house and showed his little pointy teeth. I didn't trust him.
This post is part of the A-Z Challenge, hosted by several wonderful bloggers. Check it out at http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/.
Awww he was adorable. A friend of mine as a teacup chihuahua, called Mini Mouse, she is just the cutest little thing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute name!
DeleteCute little dog and funny anecdotes.
ReplyDeleteRuby
How cute! I wonder if my big old German Shepherd could be trained to captain a boat.
ReplyDeleteJust don't put a life jacket on her...not that we would ever put a life jacket on a dog or get clawed up because of it....(Young and stupid.)
DeleteDogs are my favourite animals. I have written about them on my blog under the title 'Yorkshire Village Dogs'. My daughter has four dogs so I get to look after them when we visit the USA - next trip in May.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have every met a chihuahua. He looks to be in charge.
You might not want to meet one. This one was fierce and thought he was big.
DeleteHe sounds like the sort I'd hate to meet at your front door, but he's so cute in the pic above!
ReplyDeleteHe was cute.
DeleteI guess these dogs are more of a 'one person' animal?
ReplyDeleteCute picture though.
HMG
We have a nice one now. I think this one just had a quirky personality.
DeleteAnimals are amazing creatures. And their antics keep us amused.
ReplyDeleteYou don't see that everyday. Lol Great picture.
ReplyDeleteI wish I found the picture of him in the Santa Claus suit. Or his rain coat. Oh well.
DeleteOh, what a handsome and handy fellow! I'd love to have a pooch who could also take me places!
ReplyDeleteWe had to take him with us - he wouldn't let my mom feed him without biting her first.
DeleteWeird. We have one of those too. Thankfully he's named Gus and not Rosco - that would have been weird.
ReplyDeleteOurs is pretty well tempered though, he doesn't get weird unless someone comes into the bedroom. Anywhere else and he's pretty okay.
That would have been a huge coincidence. We have a super sweet new one...so far.
Deleteyes, they are little rat dogs...love the photo!
ReplyDeleteI like photos of dogs acting like people. I caught a photo (in a local parking lot) of a large white poodle-looking dog and his smaller version looking as if they are driving:

I'm a fan of terriers, I like their spunkiness, but I wouldn't trust a dog that shows its teeth, not with a little one around. In my world, pets behave or else; bad behaviour is not acceptable for humans or animals.
No, this one definitely needed to go when the baby came. I won't have a bitey dog around - my ex and I disagreed on this point.
DeleteI'm terrified of giant poodles. I suspect they are aliens.
Boat driving chihuahua! LOL!! I had a chihuahua as a kid ... I loved her.
ReplyDeleteOnce he jumped off the back to save my husband. We thought a gym shoe had gone overboard.
DeleteVery cute photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie.
DeleteWhat a great picture. Very cute!! I love your dog stories. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteSorry you couldn't keep him, but you definitely didn't want him biting your baby.
ReplyDeleteI don't miss this one at all. He was a terrible pet. Funny though.
DeleteMy No-No calls Sir Poops, Ratdog sometimes. Too funny.

That is funny.
DeleteI love chihuahuas. If I could I get one, but alas I don't think my cats would appreciate it. So sad you had to get rid of him. I hope he went to a good home.
ReplyDeleteCats are bigger, so that probably wouldn't be good.
DeleteThat photo is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynda.
DeleteHi Tonja! Thanks for visiting my blog. I just love that picture of Roscoe! I'm getting tons of story ideas just by looking at it.

Thanks.
DeleteA nervous Roscoe sounds dangerous. Love the picture.
ReplyDeleteVery true. He shivered and tiny little hairs went flying everywhere too.
DeleteHi Tonja, first time visitor and great to meet you! That is one talented chihuahua! Go go Roscoe!

Thanks for visiting. :)
DeleteInteresting dog of many talents and teeth. I just signed on to the A-Z challenge, nearly at the last minute, but I'm trying to visit every blog at least once.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely my fave boat-driving chihuahua post ever!
