B is for Boat-Driving Chihuahuas

Last spring, I wrote a month of short snippets about the chihuahua I had when I was in my 20's.  Many of the posts were about the time he went boating with us on vacation.  I won't repeat the stories here, but I finally found the picture from our boat trip.  If you want to read the snippets, click here.

This little guy was small enough to fit in a shirt pocket when we first got him.  He was completely in love with Lucy, my 110 pound dog from yesterday's post.  His whole body was smaller than her head.  He used to lay under her chin and let her lick him from head to toe.

Everyone called him Ratdog although his name was Roscoe.  He was kind of vicious and bit pretty much everyone I knew - luckily it just felt like a bee sting, and no one got too mad about it.  We had to get rid of him after I had my first child.  The baby made him nervous, and when he got nervous, he became more vicious.  He sulked around the house and showed his little pointy teeth.  I didn't trust him.

This post is part of the A-Z Challenge, hosted by several wonderful bloggers.  Check it out at http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/.

  1. Awww he was adorable. A friend of mine as a teacup chihuahua, called Mini Mouse, she is just the cutest little thing.

  3. How cute! I wonder if my big old German Shepherd could be trained to captain a boat.

    1. Just don't put a life jacket on her...not that we would ever put a life jacket on a dog or get clawed up because of it....(Young and stupid.)

  4. Dogs are my favourite animals. I have written about them on my blog under the title 'Yorkshire Village Dogs'. My daughter has four dogs so I get to look after them when we visit the USA - next trip in May.
I don't think I have every met a chihuahua. He looks to be in charge.

    1. You might not want to meet one. This one was fierce and thought he was big.

  5. He sounds like the sort I'd hate to meet at your front door, but he's so cute in the pic above!

  6. I guess these dogs are more of a 'one person' animal?
    Cute picture though.

    1. We had to take him with us - he wouldn't let my mom feed him without biting her first.

  10. Weird. We have one of those too. Thankfully he's named Gus and not Rosco - that would have been weird.

Ours is pretty well tempered though, he doesn't get weird unless someone comes into the bedroom. Anywhere else and he's pretty okay.

  12. I like photos of dogs acting like people. I caught a photo (in a local parking lot) of a large white poodle-looking dog and his smaller version looking as if they are driving:

I'm a fan of terriers, I like their spunkiness, but I wouldn't trust a dog that shows its teeth, not with a little one around. In my world, pets behave or else; bad behaviour is not acceptable for humans or animals.

    1. No, this one definitely needed to go when the baby came. I won't have a bitey dog around - my ex and I disagreed on this point.

I'm terrified of giant poodles. I suspect they are aliens.

  17. I love chihuahuas. If I could I get one, but alas I don't think my cats would appreciate it. So sad you had to get rid of him. I hope he went to a good home.
