Inside JD Salinger's
Franny and Zooey, he included a haiku by Kobayashi Issa that I fell in love with when I was in high school. Its message has become my mantra and keeps me going on difficult days, days when I feel lost and without direction. I love the message and the exclamation mark after the word slowly.
O Snail
Climb Mt. Fuji,
But slowly, slowly!
I think the higher you get up the mountain, the farther you progress toward your dream, the longer you live, the older you get, the more difficult it is to keep moving up that mountain. I feel like I've taken a long rest in one spot. It's time to keep moving, but slowly!
The snail will never make it to the top of the mountain, just like most of us will never make it to the top. So there you go.
ReplyDeleteDr. Bulldog - Dude, you are grumpy. I know I can achieve my goals if I stay the course. I have already achieved things in my life that other people said I couldn't do. It just takes determination and hard work. And a positive, non-grumpy attitude.
ReplyDeleteBut you have momentum at that point!
ReplyDeleteAlex - True and probably learned along the way.
